Japanese legal translation

Contracts, corporate documents and official papers translated between Japanese and English in the language each legal tradition expects.

What we translate

Legal and official documents

  • Contracts and agreements
  • Terms and conditions
  • Company rules and corporate documents
  • Legal correspondence
  • Certificates and official documents, with certified translation
A note on use

Translation is not legal advice

We translate what the document says. We do not advise on what it means for you in law.

Where a contract will be signed in both languages, ask your lawyer to confirm which version governs before signing.

How legal text differs

What a legal translator has to get right

Obligations stay obligations

〜するものとする marks a duty and becomes “shall”. 〜することができる grants a right and becomes “may”. Mixing them changes the contract.

Parties and defined terms

甲 and 乙 are placeholders for the parties. We replace them with the defined names and keep every defined term identical throughout.

Complete and checked

Every clause, schedule and stamp note is translated, then edited against the source so that no sentence is missing.
